I have been visiting Toadstool Bookshop since I was a little girl. Some of my favorite books growing up were purchased here. As an adult, I love their used book section (I own an online antique bookstore), the wide variety of new books, and the delicious food in the cafe. A great place to lose yourself for a few hours.
The best indie in the region. Their used section is massive, representing a wide selection of just about every topic. I have found many books of special interest and unexpected finds over the years. I pray the owners never close their doors.
The vinyl selection is incredible! Thoughtful, provocative, exciting. Not to be missed! Tried to go to the peterborough diner and the wait was too long? These guys have the answer. Spend twenty minutes or so cruising through the selection here and you won’t be disappointed.
What a great bookstore. We pointed at the map and ended up in Peterborough- glad we did, so many great shops in Depot Square. We could have spent all day here. Especially loved the used book section decorated with hundreds of model planes on the ceiling
Probably the best bookstore in the US. They have a large selection of books, yet it seems like if every single book is read and hand picked by the owners. Really amazing place, worth a visit!

This is a really thoughtfully designed bookstore with a great staff. I really like their T-shirt’s, and while they didn’t have the book I wanted when I went in, I found another that I enjoyed a lot.
Definitely a must see for anyone in the area who enjoys bookstores.
I want to stress that I am a bookstore addict. I've been on four continents (including America), and I have never failed to find a bookstore.
That said, I have NEVER been to a bookstore so complete, well-catalogued, and atmospheric as the Toadstool. This applies even to the used book section; I did not have to search to no avail through a mountain of dog-eared, musty-odored books to find what interests me. Beyond all these superlatives is the fact that prices, both new and old, are super-reasonable. My only regret is that this review does not allow for more stars.
